25 Sep The USPS Announces Rate Freeze in January 2025
We are excited to share the news that the USPS made a decision not to raise rates in January 2025. This decision came after much lobbying by industry groups and large business mailers, including Datamatx. Recently, Datamatx CEO, Scott Stephens, and four other large national business mailers met together with Postmaster General DeJoy and further expressed the issues businesses face with increases in postage every 6 months.
Datamatx has been an active member, and has representation as board members, with the National Postal Policy Council, Major Mailers Association, and Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service, all which lobby for increased services and delivery times and lower postage rates for large business mailers.
First-Class Mail remains a crucial communication tool for many industries, including financial services, utilities, healthcare, and government sectors. For businesses that send large volumes of critical time-sensitive First-Class Mail, such as invoices, checks, account statements, payment reminders, and legal notices, even a small increase in postage rates can lead to significant cost increases. By freezing rates, the USPS is enabling businesses to save critical funds on their daily and monthly mailing operations.
In recent years, the USPS has increased rates in January and July of each year. A freeze will provide companies the ability to better forecast mailing expenses for at least the first half of 2025. This freeze does not necessarily guarantee that rates will remain unchanged for the entire year, and future increases will be subject to factors like inflation, operational costs, density factors, and strategic decisions by the USPS. However, for the time being, the rate freeze applies through June of 2025, offering short-term relief to businesses and consumers.
We understand postage is a large expense and Datamatx continues to work diligently on behalf of all our customers to lobby for improved delivery service, reliability, and reduced rate increases. Additionally, Datamatx has solutions for eDelivery of your customer communications that include eNotifications, such as a PDF of a bill or statement or an encrypted PDF for those with more sensitive content. We also offer a solution that can redirect bounced emails that may have contained a customer bill or statement to a paper-based communication delivered through the mail so the customer does not miss receiving their critical communications.
Again, we are excited to share this news and we will continue to work hard on your behalf with the USPS and our other partners.
