09 May DATAMATX President and CEO Works with Major Mailers to Make Third Ounce Free
New USPS Promotion Provides Additional Stimulus for Marketing via First Class
ATLANTA, Ga, May 9, 2016—DATAMATX, a national outsourcing provider and leader in the distribution of critical business communications and payment services, today announced Postmaster General, Megan J. Brennan, announced at the National Postal Forum held in March of this year that the USPS is planning to implement the promotional rate of three ounces for the price of one ounce by January 2017.
Harry Stephens, president and CEO of DATAMATX, was part of a group at the National Postal Policy Council meeting held this past September where he is on the Board that recommended the USPS could even better serve business mailers by changing its current promotion of two ounces for the price of one to three ounces for the price of one. The decision to adopt this promotion provides a serious additional stimulus for marketing via First Class.
Three ounces for the price of one ounce gives business mailers more latitude and alleviates the worry of losing the discount to mail at the single piece rate if they were slightly over the two ounces. It helps support the demand for creating and mailing more documents in color. Additionally, it allows mailers to get the mail to the recipient faster as three ounces for the price of one is at the threshold of the cutoff for Standard Mail.
“Building on the success of the first promotion—two ounces for the price of one ounce—it made perfect sense to me to expand to three ounces to encourage using the mail more often and more creatively,” said Stephens. “As the Postal Service feels the impact of a drop in the volume of First Class mail it delivers it must continue to find avenues for changing the way it does business. I am proud to be involved in organizations that work to make changes like this one happen.”
